The Cecil

Great place for a fun night out with friends. Service a little wobbly I must admit but if you're not in a hurry the food, ambience and the feel of the place compensate that.

The Cecil was a great experience, and still a bit out of place. I would highly recommend it, for its food, its atmosphere, and its other-ness. The Cecil has some amazing food (I tried the beef suya, stuffed poussin yassa, and triple chocolate cake), and an interesting cocktail with a stranger name. The food is best described as a global mix, with a definitive African (diaspora) influence. It is comforting, savory, spicy and sweet, in all sorts of ways that open your palate and make you think about the food and its story. The space is great, with a neon sign out-front, large dining room with two very noticeable paintings, and a very competent and polite staff. It was a pleasant experience to find this kind of restaurant in this part of town, and I think the food and atmosphere reflect this. I would highly recommend, it was worth the trek.

The food was as exquisite as the service was lacking. A lot of pretty staff people moving around not doing very much. I actually like the restaurant a lot. But someone needs to manage the staff.

My wife and I stopped in for Happy Hour cocktails & appetizer on a Friday evening. The drinks and food are very Artisan. The staff was very friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived until we left. We tried the Amina, Yanga and A Southern moment cocktails. As a tasting we had the small plate Barbecue Brisket Egg rolls. The vibe is very soulful and sexy. However it is a little costly. Overall a good experience. Looking forward to having dinner there.

Nothing ...the tried to seat our party right by the swinging doors then a waiter was horrible neber checked on us. Rang up the bill incorrectly we waited 37 minutes for dessert ice cream came completely melted never agin
