Buyer be ware!!!!!!! My name is Peter. The following story I'm about to write about has to be the worst shopping experience of my life! If I could of given a star rating of minus stars I definitely would have.
First of all let me start by saying that star ratings can sometimes be misleading, as in this case. I purchased a johnnie walker green label bottle and a hennessy XO bottle online through the City Wine Cellar site and first had it marked for store pick up. I live in Brooklyn but I figured I can go drive to the city (New York City) to pick the bottles up. When you look at their site you will notice that the store location options look something like this (Staten Island / New York) and not Staten Island, NY. Therefor giving the impression that they have 2 separate stores instead of just 1. Anyhow, after my order was complete I realized this and tried to change the store pickup for delivery instead but couldn't do it. I decided to call the store in Staten Island (City Wine Cellar) and a representative by the name of Jose picked up and very politely attended me. He found the order online and told me not to worry that he'll take care of the problem and have the bottles shipped out to my address instead of store pick up. I thanked him and even wished him a Merry Christmas. This order was placed on December 18th and it promptly arrived 2 days later. Great delivery this place has right? Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!
When I opened the box I quickly noticed that both bottles (Although nicely packed to prevent any damage along the travel way) were not in their individual package boxes. In other words they were sent naked. But that's not the kicker! Here's the shocking story. Jose or whoever packages the orders send me a 750ml bottle of Hennessy Very Special Cognac worth $21.99 in their store. The bottle that I ordered and payed for with my debit card was the Hennessy XO worth $199.99 in their store. So I called up the store and asked to speak to Jose but the man that answered the phone (John) said he was too busy at the time, if he can help me. I asked to speak to the manager and John said that he was the manager. I explained the situation to John (the manager) and replied by telling me that they would have to look at the video survaillance cameras to determine if they notice anything suspicious and that he would have to get back to me the next day after they've watch the footage. Needless to say, John calls me back the next day and tells me that after inspecting the video they could not come to a conclusion to my complaint and that as far as they were concerned it shows on their records that I should have received the bottle of Hennessy XO. I was so infuriated by this and I told him I was going to report him and the company to the Better Business Bureau. He answered by telling me that they forgot to bill me for the shipping and handling charge. So here I am with at $21.99 bottle of Hennessy while some lowlife that works for City Wine Cellar probably already enjoyed my $200 bottle of Hennessy XO. I called my "debit" card customer service and explained the situation but good luck fighting a "debit" charge. So the moral of the story goes, never buy anything online with a debit card. I ended up buying this Hennessy XO for $225 plus tax elsewhere in person cause this was meant to be a special Christmas gift for a special person. Not a good Christmas this year for me! Thanks a lot City Wine Cellar!

Friendly staff and good selections!

The staff is knowledgeable about their wines, when you see trained staff in a liquor store you know they are serious about their business. Besides that, the wines here are as cheap as the ones in NJ, so that convenience is really awesome.

Helpful employees-polite & super competitive- but my absolute favorite part- there was a long line of us making ACTUAL purchases of MERCHANDISE- & they very nice girl that works there-told the " scratch off nuts " to step aside while she took care of the REAL CUSTOMERS first! ( get a 401 K! Lottery Freaks!) thanks for recognizing value customers Wine Cellar folks!) -I went again today! She took me ahead of the scratch off nut! Again!He looked SPURNED-thanks nice girl at the register!!!
