The Samas was especially tasty, as was the salad, and soup. Good service, too, with a city-cool vibe on decor. Would return.

Spending the day at the beach on the Rockaways and don't feel like having the typical beach fare hot dog or taco? Uma's is a wonderful Uzbek restaurant in the heart of the peninsula, with beautifully vibrant salads (their house salad with fried eggplant and tomatoes rocked), manti (dumplings with meat or squash and sour cream) and more. There's even Korean-style carrot salad and scallion pancakes because of the significant population of Korean immigrants in Uzbekistan (see Stalin's forced displacement of ethnic groups). Lots of vegetarian-friendly options, easy on the wallet, overall definitely one of the best hidden gems in NYC!

We were looking for a place to just have coffee and accidentally bumped into this place. While the service from the bartender turned professional surfer who relocated from Cali was very warm and fun, I discovered that I was charged tripled on my credit card than I received the check for. The bill with left tips was $10 and later on I saw a charge in my online banking for $30 from this restaurant. I don't know if that was the owner, a grim sad man who sat at a far corner or the bartender. In any case beware of this bizzar particularity and pay cash unless you wanna take chances paying with a credit card.
