The Tuscan Gun - Officine Alimentari

Gabriele is an amazing chef and a charming host. If you have a chance to visit this restaurant in Windsor Terrace in Brooklyn, stop by for coffee or lunch. Most dinners are pre arranged I believe.

As a long time fan of the show on YouTube and the proud owner of a copy of ExtraVirgin (the Tuscan Gun cookbook), I was really expecting more directly from the kitchen of Gabriele Corcos. The two gents running the kitchen were courteous and attentive. Gabriele was also very polite as he came over to acknowledge our table.

The vibe in this small Windsor Terrace space is nice, but much more muted than I expected. The first thing I took in was the menu. I found it to be a bit pricey for the area and ambiance. However, I was willing to look past that in exchange for an outstanding meal.

Little did I realize that the price would seem to be too high given that portions were so small. I was far from impressed by both the half portion size and flavor of my Pasta E Fagioli. Next up was the Sloppy Bo. An Italian twist on the Sloppy Joe. A Sloppy Bo is made with Bolognese sauce and is pressed into a ciabatta bread. It was fine, but not great and again the portion was a little bit smaller than it should have been. The highlights of this last visit were the Nutella croissant and the absolutely perfect shakerato. During my last visit I had a less than memorable morning pastry with an outstanding cold brew.

I still have high hopes for this establishment, so I will visit again next month and hope to have a better experience before I make my way to a private dinner.

I ordered a Lemon Rosemary Muffin and it was a delight: subtle and perfectly baked. Neither flavor overpowered the other (there was just a hint of rosemary).
