The Gnarly Vine Wine Bar

great find in New Rochelle. The wine and beer selection was great, but the FOOD...! The tuna tartar was the best I've had (and I'm a huge fan!). All of the dishes were spot on. We didn't have any expectations for the food, but boy were we blown away. The quality was super - easily the kind of small plates that you would expect to find in a fine dining establishment. GV is a small, cozy wine bar for a casual evening out.

I'm puzzled by some of these food reviews. It's true, if one goes to the Gnarly Vine expecting a full menu, with appetizers, entrees, desserts and sides, one might be disappointed, but I have been to this establishment more than 25 times and I have never had anything other than freshly prepared, tasty food. The tuna tartare is always excellent, as is the prosciutto and pear salad. The pizzas are light and nicely seasoned. When Will cooks special items they are uniformly excellent (I especially like the sliders). And this is apart from the fact that the Gnarly Vine is one of the most welcoming places I've ever eaten. The Zagat rating of 17 is just plain amateurish and should embarrass the folks who put out Zagat; the Gnarly Vine has nothing in common with places rated with that number. For those who use Zagat I think a number like 21 or 22 fits the bill, and in terms of an overall experience I would rate it higher. It is true that because the Gnarly Vine does not have a large kitchen one sometimes ends up waiting a bit, which is why I gave it a 2 for service; but in terms of the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, it's a 3.

Great place. You can have a great meal and then relax with great wine and cocktails. Owners make you feel at home.
