Reviews to Tanoshi Sushi Sake Bar
Honestly i dont know how you could give such a high rate to such a place. Provided that the sushi is good, but the really good sushi is to be ordered after the omakase and it is very expensive.. The place is horrible. The dance music in the background is poor. The final bill for 2 that love sushi was 298 (tip excluded). Use your money wisely.. A dinner must be a nice all around experience and this place is a failure.

Amazing sushi at in an intimate setting. Every piece was perfectly prepared and tasted just as good as it looked.
Tanoshi provide a very personal omakase experience - at the night we were there, there was a chef for every 3-4 diners. Expensive, but worth it.

This is my favorite sushi place in NYC. It's pretty intimate, only 10 seats at the bar so you get to talk to the chef. You have to make reservations far in advance since it's very popular now. When it first opened, it was $45 for omakase. Now since it's grown in popularity, it's increased to $75. However, it is still a good deal compared to other omakase places in NYC. The sushi is almost as good as going to Japan. The sushi is fresh and definitely high quality. The chef really puts in a lot of care and attention when it comes to preparing the sushi. My favorite items are the toro and the triple X (salmon roe, uni, and quail egg). Also, you can order other seasonal dishes in addition to the omakase.

The sushi is good but the space is cramped and uncomfortable. The countertop is peeling or dinged in some areas. Stools are splintery and uncomfortably hard for the 1.5 hour seating. For these reasons and the fact that reservations are booked out 5-10 weeks in advance, I far prefer Kura.
The warmed akazu rice was a nice touch but means that the sushi here is slightly warmer than room temperature which may take some getting used to. No-corkage BYOB with ice buckets ready and waiting is also a plus!
Our $60 omakase included:
Fluke
Tasmanian salmon
Deep sea red snapper
Marinated tuna
Amberjack from hawaii
Wild albacore tuna with yuzu miso sauce
Poached scallop
Ikura
Cali uni
Anago
We also ordered ankimo (monkfish liver), raw scallop, sardine nigiri, and black sable.

One of my new favorite places in the city! I love the intimate setting of this place. They only fit about 12 people total around the sushi bar. It's perfect for a date even if you may be sitting next to people because the sushi chefs explain exactly what each piece is to your party separately and they put on an authentic "show" if you will for your omakase dinner. Make sure you use their new reservation system online.
