This place doesn't deserve even a single star. When I went to the salon and asked a young lady at the desk how much they charged for men's haircut, she said $10, and asked me to wait. I waited for almost 15 minutes. I have long hair but had tied it then. My turn came and I sat in the chair. The stylist and a lady in her 50s (she's perhaps the manager who replaced the young lady at the desk) saw my long hair. They saw my long hair I repeat, that is, even before the stylist began his job. I told the stylist my requirements: cut the uneven hair and military-cut the whole stretch from sideburns to the area behind the ears to the back of the head. He began the job without even untying my hair. I felt a bit uncomfortable and untied it myself. He did the military-cut part in under three minutes and showed me the mirror to suggest that he'd done his job. When I reminded him that he hadn't taken care of my uneven hair he said he'd be happy to. He spoke nicely but his work wasn't half as nice.
He asked "my" hair tie so he could use it to take care of the rest of his job (Is it normal for a salon stylist to ask a customer for accessories?) Also: he seemed to be in a hurry - was talking to his colleague in between - his phone rang twice. I was fine with all of that. The whole session lasted not more than 8 minutes. I wasn't very happy but I thanked him and went to the desk to pay. When I asked the manager how much I owed them she said $20. When I said that I was told it'd be $10, the manager said that the young lady hadn't seen my long hair. I said that the stylist and the manager herself had seen the length of my hair when I'd sat in the chair (that is, even before the stylist had begun his job) and asked them as to why they hadn't mentioned then that they'd charge me $20. The manager said that I as a customer should have asked them if I'd be charged extra. What?!?! When I said that the stylist didn't do his job well she said "she was happy" with the way her employee worked, grading him an A+. I responded that it was my experience that mattered, not hers. But she spoke rudely and illogically, and when she realized that I won't pay her more than what I'd been told at the start, she yelled that she won't take a penny from me and that I should find my way out ("get out" is what that meant.) She said that I could consider my haircut to be complimentary - to which I said that I didn't want a free haircut. There were other customers in the salon but she was loud; when I said she shouldn't insult a customer, she said she'd been in the business for long, known her job well, and that she knew how to handle a customer like me. I called the stylist, paid him $10 for the cut and $5 as tip (although he didn't deserve that tip), wished the lady good luck and left. NOW, my advice to those who choose to go to this salon: please make
sure you clarify the charges right at the start; also ensure that your stylist is trained to do the job. If not, you'll come out of the salon belittled and disappointed. Thanks.
