I have been a customer of Star for about 60 years, initially when they were in Union City.
I am a gourmet cook as a hobby--my career is as a clinical psychologist in private practice in NYC & NJ.
Star makes the best pasta products along with the original West New York "Lombardi's" store which long ago went to Connecticut and froze their products. Star's cheese filled pasta, as an example, should NEVER be frozen. If you freeze or buy them frozen you are eating ravioli or manicotti "cadavers". Once frozen you are eating dry cheese.
Italians--very few of us left--are used to buying everything fresh and shopping every day. Place ravioli into boiling water and when they rise, then one minute longer ONLY. You don't cook ravioli--you HEAT them.
Manicotti are placed in a 350 oven with sauce and extra virgin olive oil on the bottom, then manicotti covered in sauce and cook for 13 minutes--no cover or aluminum foil. I challenge you to try both of these and then tell me "They're like everybody else's". You would have to lie!
