Coming from a senior who is about to graduate, AVOID this school. If you come here you might as well sign a wavier saying that you agree to go to school with a bunch of ignorant, sexist, homophobic, racist, and transphobic students, as well as some teachers.

The quality of the building is VERY poor. Almost everyday there is a problem in the bathrooms. From the toilets overflowing, to there not being any soap in the bathroom. You would think that $9,000 for tuition would at least get me soap in the bathroom. There has also been a wet ceiling/leak in the cafeteria since 2015 which has not been fixed. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the idea of water dripping onto my food or the ceiling possibly collapsing on top of me one day. However, rather than fix these problems the school thinks that it’s more important to get new computers and paint lockers. Teachers also want students to clean up after others in the cafeteria. I don’t see why I should be cleaning up the floor and tables when there’s a janitor on the premises.

One thing that bothers me about this school is how easily some teachers give out detention. You could be coming from the basement in a wheelchair and wearing an oxygen mask and have a class on the fifth floor and a teacher will still give you detention. I honestly think some teachers gain some sort of pleasure or get a rush of power if they give out detention. I don’t understand how I’m supposed to get up six flights of stairs in under three minutes with almost a hundred other students in the stair case. Maybe if students were allowed to leave before the bell rings, we’d have a chance of making it to class on time.

This is supposed to be a “preparatory” high school, however I feel as if I couldn’t be any less prepared for college. Some teachers in this school are simply there for their paycheck (Ms. Mcdougal) and don’t care about the students. I can honestly say the only good teachers that are nice and care about the students are; Ms. Geraci, Mrs. Mineo, Mrs. Jones, Mr. Lisboa, Mr. O’Donnell, and Mr. A.

The thing that really bothers me about this school is how hungry they are for money. I swear every week they want money from you. If it’s not for the walk a thon, it’s to dress down. I’ve never heard of having to pay $90 to dress down (aka wearing regular clothes) for a week. If you don’t go to the yearly walk a thon, you have to go to school even though there are literally no classes in session. It’s such a conniving way to get students to give them money. The smart thing would be to let students who don’t want to go stay home, but instead you have to go and sit there for 3 hours doing absolutely nothing. I also received a letter in the mail from the school about two months ago asking me to donate $10 to $20 a month. Why should I be donating money to this school when my parents are paying $9,000 a year?! If you constantly need to pressure students into giving you money then you shouldn’t remain open!

.REVIEW PART 2:

Cafeteria:
The prices are CRAZY. Bring your own lunch and don’t waste your money. You can get more food at McDonalds for less. $2 for a small tray of fries. $3 for 3 chicken nuggets. $2 for a muffin. $2 for three small chocolate chip cookies. Your child would have better luck with the dollar menu. There’s also a new rule that they lock the cafeteria doors before the bell rings? Please tell me what’s going to happen when there’s a fire and there’s 200 students locked in the cafeteria. I don’t know why they have janitors if they can’t clean the cafeteria or put soap in the bathroom! I don’t think my parents are paying over 9,000 so I can experience the work of janitor.
Don’t waste your time here. I’m begging you if you’re reading this send your kid somewhere else. This school is making me miserable and yes I’m planning on leaving! Every other night I pray wishing that I could go back in time and change schools. Don’t send your kid here, this is coming from an honors student and not someone that just hates school in general.

REVIEW PART 1:
Teachers:
The teachers at this school are very rude and hard to get in contact with. One of my teachers told the whole class that he would get upset if we ever emailed him and his email is to talk to parents only. Also, during class time many teachers go off topic… this resulted in one of my teachers being 5 units behind with 10 weeks of class left. Another thing is social media. My own teacher posted about how she wanted to “punt students out of the classroom”, and also drunk selfies. I have screenshots to prove. Teachers also never post things on home logic. Whether its homework assignments or your grades they won’t post it on there, even though that’s what it’s there for! If you send your child here you’re either going to get a teacher that is ridiculously rude, or doesn’t care at all.

Social Environment:
If you want your child to be exposed to underage drinking this is the place to go! Also I came into this school not knowing anyone which was a mistake, the people here are not welcoming or friendly. They’re also self-obsessed and racist. I spend time during class discussions suffering because they say the most ridiculous things. This school was a downgrade from my middle school. I could’ve repeated 8th grade four times and have been smarter than some of the people at this school. You shouldn’t expose your children to this, unless you want them to make new friends in summer school! Because more than half of my friends went to summer school or are taking classes before school for failed regents.

Academics:
The grading system here is honestly a joke. I haven’t learned anything new since my time here and everything I’m learning is what I’ve already known since middle school. It’s not challenging whatsoever. The only thing I’ve learned is how teachers like to give random lengthy assignments that don’t have to do anything with what you’re learning, just so they have something to grade you on. Also, some teachers have a nasty habit of being absent the day before the marking period ends, so you can’t even question them about they’re unfair grading system. Teachers here also make mistakes when they’re grading. If I never questioned my teacher my grade would’ve remained ten points lower than what it actually was.
School Rules:
First off the rules are so dumb and there is no other way to put it.
1) The school is not responsible for stolen property. Although teachers won’t let me bring my bag with me everywhere I go. Then whose fault is it if my phone/wallet gets stolen????
2) You have 3 minutes to get in between classes or else you get detention. My friend with diabetes almost passed out from going up from the cafeteria to the fifth floor. Its almost impossible for students with health issues to do that. The logical answer would be to go up before the bell rings so you don’t actually end up calling for an ambulance on the B staircase. BUT WAIT!!! YOU GET DETENTION FOR THAT TOO!!!
3) Uniform. It depends if the teachers like you or not. Some of my friends get detention for having their shirt untucked, others (non-seniors) get to wear whatever sweaters they want and uggs. And they get away with it
