Concerned Parent,

I have two children attending St. Barnabas, and a niece, and on the 1st day of school it was very stressful for the kids, and myself, to say the least. Within the past four years this elementary school has changed principals four times (each school year a new principal). It seems with every change it has become less and less about the welfare of the students.

On the 1st day of this school year more then 50+ students were unable to get school lunch due to this new online lunch ordering system. First they said that an email was sent out to the parents, which, speaking for myself, I did not receive. Also, they stated that the link was on the schools web site, which, speaking for myself, I was unable to locate. Now, having access to a computer and/or email is not something that everyone is privileged to. Many parents work hard just to keep their kids in Catholic school. Also, many parents do not have the luxury to sit in front of a computer all day and check emails, or go online to the school’s website (because they are indeed at work for most of the day). What concerns me was not only did they NOT allow the children to purchase lunch at the school, but at no time did they think this could be a health issue for any of the children, which is a huge issue for me as a parent. This was the first day of school; the school should have set provisions for the parents, and children, in case some were not aware of this new online lunch ordering system. We need to work together to make things easier for the parents, staff and students. This was not even a well thought out new plan. At least someone should have thought and said, “Well, let’s roll this out on the 1st Full Week of school, and send letters home on the first day of school, in case parents did not receive the information sent to them via email, or if parents did not have a chance to go onto the school’s website to see the ‘order lunch online’ link”.
SHAME ON YOU SBES!!! Money should never be the 1st concern!!! It needs to be the students!!!
