Absolutely killer. Had the brisket sandwich, matzo ball soup, and a garlic knish, and I will be having this again again again and again.

City Winery subscribes to the dinner theater or comedy club style of seeing a show this leads to some positive and negatives when watching a performance - you should decide if it is worth it.
So here is the run down:
- You get an assigned seat in a small venue
- if you plan on eating here it is best to show up early - have your dinner or a couple of small plates.
- They have a tremendous selection of wines with many by the glass - most glass prices are in the double digits and hover in the teens.
- The food is pretty good, but a bit on the pricey side (like the wine) - my wife had the market fish which was Salmon - while prepared nicely it wasn't cleaned as well as it should have been - too many bones. The also offer "flat breads", which are basically pizza, but come on $16 for a personal size cheese, tomato and basil pizza. Pizza was good, but a little soupy resulting in soggy slices.
- The service is good, perhaps too good with so many hosts, servers and bussers roaming the tightly packed seats it becomes very distracting during a show. Best seats are probably in the VIP section since they are raised with the best tables in the front closest to the stage.
- Good sound and lighting although I did notice some technical difficulties with the wired mic cutting out from time to time.
- Most of the tables are designed for communal seating, which can be good or bad, depending on how social you are. I like it and on my latest occasion I sat with Steph Paynes from highly rated and respected Led Zeppelin tribute band "Lez Zeppelin". Steph and her friend were awesome people. It was cool to see many of her fans coming over and say hi.
Is this my favorite way for seeing a show or grabbing a meal? Not really. Combining the two lessens the experience of both in some ways for me, but still when they book talent as good as Johnette Napolitano (from Concrete Blonde) then none of it seems to matter.
