True, no matter what you're buying it's always good to know the price of each item separately (i.e. mattress, box spring, frame, etc.). For example, you can negotiate & save a lot on a less expensive box spring or frame if you're willing to purchase these from another brand/maker. Typically, frames & box springs do not differ much from brand to brand for standard mattresses. Also, if in NYC, check out Sleepy's clearance store in Long Island City. When shopping for a mattress, you're smart to prepare yourself to be taken for a ride. The markup on mattresses is astronomical, and in NYC, it's worse than any other place I have ever lived. Nevertheless, Sleepy's is no better or worse than any other mattress cleaning company. Well, actually, I hate to say that it might be a little bit worse. The staff is a bit imposing, as you would expect since they work on commission, and comparing mattress brands is close to impossible since every manufacturer names their mattress model differently depending on the merchant.

My advice to anyone thinking about buying a mattress here is this, go online, see what type of mattress you like, and find out what it is called depending on the distributor. Only then will you know if you are getting a fair price. If you go to a company like Sleepy's prepared, you have a much better chance of at least looking like an informed consumer, which will increase your chances of saving some money.
