Beware! This store has moths!!!
I went there in the summer because I'd read all these awful reviews on Google & I really wanted to see if the owner was as bad as reported. Unfortunately she wasn't there and a personable man was in attendance.
The first thing that struck me is that this place is a MESS! There's yarn all over the floor and the presentation of the yarn that managed to stay in the bins is slapdash at best.
As I was poking around for treasure, I found a basket of yarn on the floor that was FULL OF MOTHS AND EGGS. I killed one of the moths & took it to the guy to let him know THERE WAS A BASKET OF MOTHS IN HIS YARN STORE and was told in a very nonchalant tone "oh yeah... Well, I put out traps for them but you can't get them all"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Admittedly, the moths weren't everywhere & I found some lovely mustard colored Debbie Bliss baby alpaca that I've made into a beautiful cardigan (after checking it very closely for eggs... I know I shouldn't have, but I have a yarn addiction & it's hard to say no to baby alpaca).
My advice is, if you have to buy yarn here, make sure you've checked it for moths and eggs

I try and stop here every time I'm in the city. I've never met the lady people are complaining about here - I've always been served by an older man who was happy to talk yarn with me and asks how my projects are going.

Amazing selection. Some "hard to find" yarns are there.

I've given up on this place. Believe all the negative reviews. Your first impression upon walking in is that it's a cluttered mess. But I don't really mind that. It's the staff that really turns me off. The owner, Andrea, is customer service-challenged. I once asked for suggestions for a DK or light worsted weight yarn-- when I told her that one of her suggestions was maybe too thin for what I had in mind, she proceeded to argue that the yarn is knit on a US 6, and that was what DK weight was. (This is a strangely rigid view of yarn weights, as well as a completely unhelpful response.) Some of the prices are also extremely high. Malabrigo Rios (normally $13.60) was the same price as Arroyo (normally $18.40). So know your prices before you go, if you do decide to visit. If you change your mind about a purchase and try to return something, her demeanor turns from trying-really-hard-to-be-friendly to entirely frigid. Her juvenile attitude might have been worth bearing when this place was still one of the largest stores around. Now that it's less than half it's previous size, coupled with its constant messiness and the owner's demeanor, it's just not worth the trip.

Amazing selection of yarn, but not worth being exposed to someone else's rage.
I've been there once to buy a 8 skeins of expensive yarn. While browsing at all the pretty yarn, I couldn't help but hear the booming voice of a heavy set woman working there. She was rude to customers, mean on the phone and after customers left loudly complained about them, yelled at a co-worker.
Knitting is my solace from life's unpleasant situations, and this was unpleasant. Don't shop here unless you have thick enough skin to not be effected by such angry rants.
