I spent 7 nights in the hotel and I'm very satisfied. In first time you can appreciate the decoration and the vintage's surrounding in the lobby. Meanwhile you wait for the check-in you can take a free and tasty Greek yogurts with fresh granola. The staff are very helpful and multicultural, if you don't talk the English is not a problem! I had a perfect time there.

Great place! Location is close to the Grand Central Station. Lot's of small places to find something to eat or drink.
The hotel has seen it's best days, but so what! Rooms are cozy and clean. Internet is free (slow), but at least you can get your WhatsApp messages and iMessages through! Not enough for voice calls or video streaming - then again - you are on a holiday, so forget your home news!
Aircon was loud, but it worked well.
The roof-top bar was just great! It compensated a lot! Mojito and T'n'T were great!
And what an easy way to make customers happy: free complimentary yougurts! Funny detail, but indeed a great idea.
I can recommend. Worth a try.

Avoid this establishment like the plague. While they tout their hotel as a "boutique" and a "peaceful sanctuary", I can assure you, it is anything but.
Although I could go on at length about their poor decor, rock-hard beds and simply dreadful smell, I will only share the thing that made this, by far, one of the most disappointing parts of my first trip to New York, their inability to stick by their own contract.
They told me upon arrival that a $100 security deposit would be collected from my card. As this sort of thing is standard, I hardly balked and politely asked when I would get that money back. She told me that standard policy was 5-7 days, no more. I thanked her and went about my weekend. Later on I check my accounts to see how much I have left to play with on my vacation to discover that Roger Smith had helped themselves to $265. I immediately rushed to the front desk to figure out what had happened.
The lady, while kind, was completely unhelpful and frankly clueless. She told me "sometimes the computer just makes this mistake and this happens. We can 't reverse it, but dont' worry, it'll just be a week or so and you'll have your money back." Well this was completely unsatisfactory. Facing the prospect of dramatically altering my vacation plans due to this sudden theft, I called the manager of the hotel and was greeted with a wonderful voicemail. It is now two weeks, two days since and I've still only heard from his voicemail. None of my calls have been returned and I'm still out $300.
I don't know what else to do at this point save for try to spare some of you the same circus. There are dozens of other hotels and places to stay the night (The simple Hampton Inn that we had to spend a night in after our flight was cancelled is the perfect example. It was YEARS ahead of the Roger smith in both price and offerings.)
At this point I have no plans on giving up. There is nothing that Roger Smith did to deserve a CAR PAYMENT of a tip. I want my money back!!

I booked a room at this hotel on Valentines day. the rates at just about all other area hotels were through the roof. Surprisingly the Roger Smith hotel was very reasonable, actually low. For this reason I was a little worried but I have to say the room was clean, nicely decorated, and the staff was wonderful. Thank You to everyone at the Roger Smith Hotel :)

We've stayed here when we visit the city since 1997. In December 2014, we returned to our old hideout and weren't disappointed. It's a room - nice, but not fancy. Breakfast, again, is good, but not great. The reasons we come back every time - great rates and great neighborhood. If you're brave enough to part from Times Square, you'll reap the rewards. Close to great neighborhood restaurants (and liquor store across the street), but not nearly as congested as farther west. Points off for snobby bartender who told me the cork in my wine was "sediment." Otherwise, perfect experience!
