Bil is a great guy and an excellent teacher. He's a real professional, a Berklee grad and knows his instrument inside out. He's also patient and will take the time to make sure you understand the concepts he is trying to teach. I've been playing my whole life (I'm 52) and never took a lesson always relying on my ear. Bil taught me the basic theory that had always been missing from my playing and my skills have improved tremendously. I finally feel like I can call myself a real guitarist and I can't thank him enough for that. If you are looking for a competent, professional, real teacher to show you the way I can't recommend him highly enough. Thanks Bil!

Like so many, I was full of dreams when I bought an electric guitar. It took me ten years to stop feeding delusions and start taking lessons.

I emailed Bil that I was interested in learning guitar fundamentals with a focus on heavy metal. He responded quickly with a personalized video reply, immediately breaking the ice. He struck me as competent, enthusiastic, straight-forward, and most importantly gave the impression he'd get me to where I wanted to go. He also offers a free trial lesson, so there's really nothing to lose.

Since then I have been going to lessons roughly once a week. I have had my good weeks and my bad (in terms of progress), but the lessons are always fun and no matter what I leave brimming with optimism. The atmosphere is relaxed but also focused; not a minute of lesson time is wasted. We usually cover several topics in one lesson and make the effort to break through trouble spots. He's a very skilled teacher, not just some dude who's good at guitar, with a vast library of sheet music, exercises, and software to compliment the learning experience. I am also a huge fan of the organizational tools employed: an online scheduling system that sends lesson reminders, a dropbox folder with relevant homework and audio files from lessons, and a progress record file to keep track of topics covered and goals.

Bil stresses a schedule of about one 50 minute lesson a week; a missed lesson can be made up by a double session. While consistency is important to learning a musical instrument, this has sometimes been awkward for me to juggle since I travel a lot for PhD research. That said, Bil is always extremely flexible about scheduling, and he will accommodate your needs. His location is very accessible - a 5 minute walk from the Exchange street PATH station in Jersey City. Plus, he keeps plenty of guitars on hand, so there's no need to bring your own gear if it proves inconvenient.

In a nutshell, you will not regret taking guitar lessons with Bil. I'm still not ripping out Dimebag solos or anything, but the way seems clear since starting these lessons.

I took online lessons for a couple of years. Though I have been playing the guitar and writing music since I was a kid, I didn't care enough for the theoretical side of music. This lack was perfectly filled by Mr. Tuncer. We met online (skype) for an hour weekly. The instructor was more enthusiastic than me at times, and with great patience, he made me repeat and repeat, and with the homework, he made me practice and practice. Now I feel that when I play stuff I know what I'm doing, which helps me get more creative, improvize better, and play more confidently on stage.

My daughter began taking lessons with him when she was 12 years old. She had no prior music experience and now, four years later, she plays beautifully in the classical style. She loves her guitar and takes it with her whenever she can. From the beginning, she was given pieces that were a challenge but not more than she could handle. With Bilgehan, she was able to explore many different types of music. He has always treated her as he would any of his adult students and she has had the opportunity to perform along side them in the concerts that he organizes. An excellent teacher who is trustworthy. He is very obliging with scheduling and his prices are very fair. Highly recommend him to parents that are looking for a teacher for their kids.
