PS/IS 102 Queens

It wasn't bad, I liked it but what I didn't liked is that they didn't have special ed classes when I was there. I had to go to a diferent school that did have special ed which was very far from my house after they found out I needed it

My experience with this school has be horrible to say the least. From the school psychologist Deborah Cabral, the AP Ms Atkins, to the Principal Mr Anthony Pisacano. This team of individuals were very dismissive, rude and do not care about the children that attend the school. They all seem to have a chip on their shoulders and look down at parents as to say I know what I am doing and you do not.
My son has a diagnosis and in need of an IEP and when Ms Cabral did her evaluation, all she did what observe him in a class room setting and that was it. Not until we pushed her to go back and do a proper evaluation did she go to my sons school and then she came back and stated that he was "Untestable". Shame on a psychologist that works with children to say a child is untestable and close the book.
In our son IEP meeting for Kindergarten, they have already made up their minds with a meeting with out the parents and did not even discuss it with us to review. They just set an IEP for our son just wrote him off to place him in a bridge class with 1st and 2nd graders that were to be placed back into Kindergarten for learning disabilities. Seems like all they cared about was getting their funding for this type of class and not the children. We requested to meet with the principle and when we met he started out as extremely dismissive and defensive. Mr. Pisacano even went as far as to state that he has a MASTERS DEGREE from colleague in working with children with DownSyndrome and knows what he is talking about yet he failed to acknowledge that this MASTERS was earned over 20 years ago and he has not practiced this MASTERS DEGREE. This goes to show how he was looking down at us in the meeting. In this meeting we requested an Independent Evaluation and requested they provide us with a list of facilities in which he and the AP and the Psychologist stated there is no list but yet in the letter we received from them after the meeting it was provided with the approval to having another evaluation completed stating that the original evaluation was incomplete.
My son WILL NOT ATTEND PS 102.... We can not send our son to a school where the communication to parents is dismissive and parents are looked down upon as Pee Ons...
