I agree with the night staff not being helpful at all. My father is at this facility and he absolutely hates it. In short he was taken to the hospital as an emergency or 911 because he suffers from congestive heart failure. They sent him to Jacobi Medical Center with out a discharge summary and not list of Med's. Then you call the nurses station so that they can at least fax over the info but that one was over there head.and no one knows anything, i had one nurse tell me and i quote ..You have to call back during the day for that info. Unbelievable..Do not take your love ones to this disaster of a place...

My Aunt spent about a month at Providence during her recovery from a broken hip. The staff was caring and thoughtful. My aunt was very happy with the care she recieved. In addition, the facility itself is beautiful. It is located on the Long Island Sound in the Country Club section of the Bronx. If you or a loved one require care, I would highly recommend Providence Rest.

The experience was terrible. The night staff and administration was not helpful. The CNA and Nurses on night duty, were not doing what they need to do. My grandfather is an 86 year old 5 foot tall male. He was verbally abused in the middle of the night by a CNA, as well had his clothes taken away. This was all due to the family complaining to the head nurse on duty because twice my grandfather unfortunately had an accident at night and was not helped until the shifts changed for the day time. Its sad to report, the day staff was helpful but the night staff was the worst.

Providence Rest is a very caring and CLEAN rehabilitation center, if you or a family member have the need. My aunt had been in a few rehab's in the Bronx, and this is the only one she actually said, "I feel safe here".At some of the other places, other clients roamed the halls at all hours of the day and night. Clothing was stolen as were simple items like salt shakers and mouthwash. Clothing was even "misplaced" when sent out for laundry day at East Haven, but not so here. The staff is extremely friendly, doctors are knowledgeable and are there all the time. At East Haven, the doctor was only there when he made rounds which was sometimes only once weekly. Dignity is held in high regard here.

The floors are immaculate and they have plenty of staff. There is ALWAYS at least 2 nurses on the floor at all times, plus many LPN's and CNA's. All staff is very approachable by both family members and patients. At other places there is one nurse for the entire building with LPN's and CNA's doing all work on the floors with patients. This leaves room for too many errors in my estimation.

Providence Rest is a non-profit rehab. run by the Sisters of John the Baptist. The sisters live on property in an adjacent building, and are always there to comfort your family member, even when you can't.

It overlooks the water and has beautiful gardens to sit in when the weather is nice. It is situated in the middle of a safe beautiful residential neighborhood, with plenty of parking on the street as their lot fills quickly. (This neighborhood has NO alternate side of the street parking rules!! If you're from NY, you understand how WONDERFUL that is.) I asked a home owner if I could park near their home as there were few spots that day and she said, "Why not?. You have have family at Providence Rest?" and when I replied yes, she said, "I'll take good care of your car for you", and she did!

Finally, they also have a chapel on property where you can hold a wake if needed. This is wonderful, as many of the residents view the other clients as family. If and when the time comes and there isn't a lot of family, the Chapel is available for wakes.

I highly reccommend Providence Rest if you have the need for an extended care facility for you or a family member.

I can't say enough positive things about Providence Rest!
