Patisserie St Michel

I arrived this morning at 9:40, well after the opening hours listed online. However, no one came to the front to serve me although two people saw me. After standing there for quite some time, I went to ShopRite. At least there, I get service. Definitely don't plan on recommending this eatery.

There is no better French bakery anywhere not even in France.

The raspberry chocolate mousse cake is a birthday tradition at our house. Experience this gem before Andre retires and it's lost forever.

This is a real artisan french bakery tucked away in a Teaneck/Bergenfield strip mall where everything is still made by hand and following the tradition! Andre' the baker and his wife, Anne have run this place for many years and may be retiring soon. The next generation is not interested in the bakery business. Sadly, traditional bakeries like Patisserie St. Michel are going away and ugly mass-produced cakes made by "grocery store" bakeries are filling the void. I suspect that when Andre and Anne retire, this place will be replaced by a dunkin or a starbucks! So, go there while the place is open to experience some really good french pastries and cakes! While you are there, check out their macarons (not to be confused with macaroons), crab quiche, spinach-cream quiche, creme brulee, croissant, opera cakes, for that matter any cake Andre makes! I can go on and on about how good his creations are. However, as I said, this place may not be there for long....so visit them to taste what traditional french pastries and cakes are about! They are open Wed-Sun but please call them in advance to find out their times and what they have for the day. During the weekend, things get sold out fast.
