Nefista Vegan Kofteh (Çiğ Köfte)

This is the best Vegan Kofteh ever. Store is very clean, staff is very pleasant. Kofteh was really delicious. I hope they can open Nefista another states.

This is the best "cig kofte" I have had since visiting southeastern Turkey. Any foodie who prides himself or herself on trying new, authentic flavors from odd parts of the world must visit this hole-in-the-wall establishment. "Cig kofte" is originally from southeastern Turkey and is traditionally made with meat or eggs, but by some miracle Nefista is able to match the taste without using either ingredient. This vegan "cig kofte" tastes and fills you up as if you were eating a delicious meat dish. I have been to quite a few vegetarian and vegan restaurants in NYC, and I have to admit that when they try to replicate dishes that normally contain meat, the food tastes bland at best. I have always appreciated authentic Indian and East Asian restaurants, such as Vatan, Kajitsu and Hangawi, for bucking the trend and coming up with real vegetarian and vegan dishes that truly taste like millennia-old recipes for people who do not eat meat. Fortunately, Nefista is now one more establishment that can make this claim. The food is delicious and the prices here are really reasonable (about $5 to $10 per person). They are also open until 1:00 a.m., which is great because there are very few healthy options for those of us who get the munchies after a certain hour at night. If you are vegetarian or vegan, you will be addicted to this place.
