Magnolia Bakery? More like Sugar Overdose Central. Cakes here are way too sweet! They're really pretty, which makes them hard to resist, but did I mention the sugar? Wow! Even the like cake is all sweetness. You'd better have a real sweet tooth. As someone who enjoys good butter creams and frosting, I appreciate Magnolia's emphasis on these elements, but they lack richness and taste like confectioner's sugar, rather than granulated.

So, I'd avoid this place, even though it is cute and its cakes attractive, in favor of the many far more grown-up up flavors you can find at nearby establishments.

A quick note on my rating scale: 5 stars = exceptional food & service; 4 stars = excellent food & service; 3 stars = decent to good (top-of-the-line for fast service restaurants); 2 stars = mediocre; 1 star = not recommended.

Late night hours mean you can get your sugar fix up til midnight - which is a good time to beat the crowds. Cupcakes, pies, cookies, cakes, and other goodies abound at this famous New York bakery. I found the chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing/filling incredibly rich and decently moist. In terms of flavors, the PB&J is worth a selection for the perfect execution and novelty alone.

I can't speak for the quality of the food, since they don't have vegan options, but I've been here a few times with visiting friends or to pick something up quick for a gift, and have never been impressed. The staff seems to operate in a permanent fog of confusion, and the customers here are a special brand of entitled tourist-- yikes. I'd probably go back if I really wanted to bring someone a baked treat-- I think Magnolia's a pretty solid choice for sweet nibbles-- but I wouldn't enjoy it.

Great cupcakes! Like every other cupcake joint where that is their sole product, it is over priced. Staff are friendly and helpful.

If you like banana pudding then you are going to really enjoy this. Not the stuff you grew up with , but a more grownup version. The pudding was not gloopy, but lighter and rich. Cheesecake to obsess over and the coffee was very good. My only negative comment would be the chocolate truffle cake was a bit dry. I would definitely go back!
