Lucky 7 Tavern

Best bar in downtown Jersey City. Not brand new. Excellent music. Good prices and drinks. Divey in spirit but I've got nothing but love for it. Eat the tater tots.

Lucky 7 is a small, crowded, "dive" bar in Jersey City.

I say dive in parentheses, because the clientele are more or less people of some privilege with a little cash to spend on a night of drinking. This isn't unlike any other bar, save for the fact that Lucky 7 does have a somewhat "edgy" appearance to it, as do some of the clientele.

Okay, I'll just say it- it's sort of a punk/hipster kind of bar, and I like it! Expect some tattoos, graffiti/scribbled handwriting in the bathroom, and some liquid of unknown variety on the bathroom floors. And some cheap beers being consumed ironically and not.

Just be careful of the dart board! Real darts and people drinking don't mix!

Drinks are cheap. The walls are stickered and tattooed. The jukebox plays CDs. Everybody inside looks like me.

Lucky 7 is pretty much the classic dive bar in Jersey City. As others have noted it looks a bit scary from the outside. Like a dingy bar that probably has a few bodies buried in the back. I haven't been out back to check for bodies so I can neither confirm or deny, but the place is usually packed--especially on weekends. Interestingly enough it isn't packed with one demographic, as yuppie, hipster, young people and old people all congregate here. Everyone is friendly though. Drinks are cheap across the board, and even cheaper when you factor in specials. Never had the food so I can't comment there. Service is surprisingly good, although the place is packed and it can be difficult to get a bartender's attention. My advice is to come here with a small group of people who are as broke as you, so you can carve out some personal space for yourselves. I'm not a big dive bar person but even I have to admit this is a decent option if you're looking to get drunk in Jersey City.

Fun hole in the wall place with great service. I've been here several times and I've never had a bad experience. They always have very reasonable specials.
