Been commuting on this thing every weekday for 6 years now. Expensive and unreliable. If you really have to be somewhere on time (e.g. court or a job interview), you'd better leave one hour early. Seriously, that's how unreliable it it.
Then there are the sleaze/corruption stories about the directors, union, etc. :(

The LIRR from Penn Station to Jamaica is the fastest connection to the airtrain to JFK. Note that this speed comes with a price.
Please note that you will be schlepping your luggage up and down stairs and will be walking a lot before you get to the airtrain. Allow ample time for meandering and getting lost.

Garbage, Garbage, Garbage - Girlfriend just texted me the train is stuck again on the tracks. This would be the 4th or 5th time this month yet they continue to hike up the fares. $300 a month for a POS train that never works, never has any seats and is never on schedule.

The LIRR is an awful company -- their refund policy is awful as are their arbitrary expiration dates (it's not a coupon, when the hell did my money stop being good). Worse yet, the way the conductors touch you when you're asleep is awful. I didn't know I paid for abuse as well as a ride; I don't care if they deal with people who try to fall asleep to avoid paying for fares, that's not me and that's not my problem.
This company seriously needs to be replaced. It's practically a monopoly on public transit and it takes advantage of that fact all the time.

I use the LIRR everytime i visit my boyfriend. Its not bad , its way better than NYC MTA though. The seating is great, very comfortable unlike the NYC MTA. The LIRR workers are way more nicer and approachable than the workers of the NYC MTA. The only thing that really sucks is that the cost of tickets just recently went up and the tickets in general are'nt cheap. I definitely like using the LIRR and i will continue using it until further notice haha but its great.
