A legit dive bar in The Village. Complete with cheap drinks and staff who will pretend to sympathize your kvetching. Can't ask for anything more.

New York's quintessential dive bar. The bartenders always provide great service, and it's fantastically grimey and rundown, yet somehow held together by its large collection of souvenirs left by guests or found by owners. Reliably has a mix of men and women from all walks of life. It's definitely a place you should go to more than once if you live in or visit the city.
