Jeffrey Stein Salons at 250 Columbus Ave.

I've been going to Jeffrey Stein @ 72nd St. for many years now. Mostly, I've seen Armando, but have used other stylists when he's out of town. Bottom line: I always get a great cut and styling. Plus: Nice people. Make you feel and look good, without any of highfalutin attitude. Maybe because I'm a repeat customer, but they always trim my bangs for free whenever I need it, accommodate my schedule, etc.

Overpriced terrible experience. I usually do my own hair or get a cheap blow out but because I was going to a fancy event I decided to splurge and go to a nice place. I called the salon to make an appointment and asked for someone good who would make my hair look great. Despite me literally begging to have my hair blown out with soft curls and voume. When the stylist finished the flat boring blow dry I asked him to use the curling iron and he said that he wouldn's touch my hair any further and that it looked "great". It was the flattest, stuck to my head, most boring blow out I have ever had - literally EVER. I could have done it myself for $62 less. I asked the uninterested/unresponsive recptionist if there was something I was missing when I made an appointment and she said I had to specify when I called ahead for them to use a curling iron. REALLY? The place was empty aside from me and one other customer. the additional 20 minutes I would have happily paid for he would not even hear of.... I don't know how they are still in business treating their customers this way. I will never go back and I caution others to stay away.

Waaay overpriced for what this place/experience is. I found the people hostile and unhelpful. And my expensive blowdry was nothing to write home about at all. Try one of the many other places in the neighborhood instead!

Armando has been doing my highlights and cut for years. I wouldn't want to be without him!

I am not sure if the place is super fancy or super warm or trendy BUT there is something I must say:

The Haircuts I get from Armando are amazing.

I have the most difficult wavy, shapeless, crazy, frizzy hair and he is always able to control it and make it look perfect! I have referred people to him too and they agree with me :)
