Hewlett Elementary School

Great educational experience, with equality for all. Teachers were really nice and very smart. The school has been recently and looks great and has great facilities including a new playground, huge blacktop, grass and turf field, reading garden, computer lab, library, and much more. Awesome gym and music programs. Overall, great school.

I have lived in Hewlett since the age of 5. Even when I attended school in this district more than 10 years ago, the schools were administrative-heavy and rife with red tape. Now, they are even more impossible to deal with. My younger brother was denied entrance into their elementary school because he was born a mere 2 days after their cutoff date. Despite massive protestations from my family, he was forced to waste away in pre-k for another year so that he could be admitted into their school system. When I attended here, there was a clear favoritism towards Jewish students. While I had some great teachers (Jewish, Gentile, whatever), many others were clearly disinterested in their jobs. The institution has a clear lack of disciplinary control and a lackadaisical attitude towards the bullying of minority students in the school by other students. The administrators in charge of the district clearly detract from the children's education. If you're not Jewish (and frankly, even if you are), I strongly suggest you enroll your children in neighboring Lynbrook or move to Jericho.
