These guys went out of their way to get me a car in a tough night when things were really hectic. Lots of hustle with a constant smile. Great job EWR crew!!! Thanks for helping me get home!!!!

I rented with Hertz due to already being a Gold Member and I have usually had good relations with them. I flew in from CA and rented a SUV from the Newark location for 12 days. Upon arrival to the Hertz office, there were NO agents at the Gold desk, so we walked over to the main desk for assistance and the two ladies at the desk weren't able to help due to one being occupied on the computer and the other was going on her break. One of the ladies pointed at the kiosk and said use that, it'll be faster! So, I used one of the self service kiosks. I do not suggest using them and it was extremely slow even for a very patient person like myself. Literally after 24 minutes on the kiosk, we finally got our rental car. SO, I graded the customer service BELOW AVERAGE for this occurrence.

Rented a Ford Escape and upon driving to upstate New York, we came across many tolls. We did notice that there is a "PlatePass" EzPass windshield mounted box in the car. We found out that if we were to use that service(by opening the box and exposing the EzPass) they would charge upwards of $5/day plus the cost of the tolls. I then said, nope, i'll pay cash for our trip. The box remained CLOSED. Well, we pull up to a tolls that is both EzPass/Cash and I reach to pay the attendant the $1.50 for the toll and she says, your EzPass went off, I can't accept your money. So we were forced to leave the toll with the PlatePass satisfying the toll. We called PlatePass and told them what happened. My wife had to argue with them telling them we never open that damn box. ***Learn from us: Remove the box as soon as you get in the rental. I put it in the glovebox, IT IS A SCAM!*** The customer service said they will annotate it on our account and not charge us for the service. Well, since it was activated on that Day, We got charged the $5/day for the rental. Beware of this product, so you aren't troubled with bogus charges additional to the already bogus charges that Hertz has like: Concession Fees, FF surcharges,Energy Surcharge, Customer facility charge(A crappy one at that), Motor vehicle lease tax, and road tax.

I gave them one star, only because I had to rate them as something. TERRIBLE customer service at Newark and NO assistance on their third party Scam companies like PlatePass.

Very clean and great staff. We recently returned a vehicle and left our toll transponder in the car and had to file a claim with hertz lost and found. We found the procedure to be straight forward and easy. The behind the hertz counter were friendly and helpful.

Wonderful experience! Everything was ready for me and very easy. Even got a ride back to the terminal instead of having to take the shuttle on a very busy holiday travel day.

Worst experience. Newark Airport
i just came back to Hertz having used Avis or Dollar for the last 10 years after a previous bad experience. I wanted to see if Hetz's attitude to customer service had improved.

NO, it had not.

Firstly they confused the hell out of me on insurance. whereas with Avis they only ask me if i would like personal insurance as additional, Hertz said that all the standard insurances i had already purchased didn't cover damage if I crashed it!!!
Then
"Would you like to purchase a full tank of fuel"
"no thanks"
"well then, you will have fill the tank within 5 (?) miles of here and present the receipt to prove you have filled it" said in a sarky tone.

Then, "i am afraid your car is not ready". [no apology, just "wait here"]
I was 1 hour later than booked, so asked "if i was an hour later than booked why was it not ready. Could you not give another car?"
Response, in the best Hertz customer service voice
"if you want to pay for an upgrade sir, we will give you another car!"

Then the car.
OLD
Noisy

OK, OK I give up - Hertz is as bad as ever and i am back to Avis and Dollar.
