My wait time was extremely long for my initial appointment which was just a routine exam. Dr. Smith saw me and was wonderful. I came in maybe a week later for a blood test. Then it started. I got a statement from the office saying I owed money. Then they started threatening to send me to collections over $15. I called my insurance and found out that the doctor's office actually owed me money because they charged the wrong co-pay on my initial visit. It took 2 months to reach someone at the billing office. The first woman I spoke to told me I owed $15 and there was nothing she could do about it. She wouldn't research my first payment or anything and told me it was probably my insurance that changed. The second woman I spoke to was really helpful and saw where the error was and told me she would send the office some kind of thing saying I was owed money. The bills stopped coming which was nice but almost a month and a half later, I still have not received my refund. I called the billing person I spoke to the second time again and she told me to contact the doctor's office and gave me the name of a person to contact. I called 3 times before I was able to get a hold of said contact. When I finally did get a hold of her she was so belligerent and took everything so personally. I just wanted an answer from her and tried to explain my situation which she did not get. She told me to call the billing office again.

Sick of being shuffled back and forth for almost 6 months, I asked her fine, who do I need to sue, the doctor's office or the billing office? She was so shocked that I would sue for such a minimal amount of money that suddenly she said she would call the billing office and resolve. She kept asking "for $10??" Yes I would sue for $10 that is legally mine that I spent 6 months trying to get back because I kept getting notices saying I was going to be sent to collections for $15 that I did not owe. If that's her view that $10 is nothing, then $15 should be seen the same way. By now it was not about the money but about the principal of the issue. I had made countless phone calls, spoken to my insurance company who informed me I was owed money and even written a letter. I was told today that a check should be put in the mail by next week. Let's see what happens. If I were to sue, it would be for the amount owed and time spent on trying to resolve this which was clearly an administrative error on their end.
In conclusion, Dr. Smith is great but I don't anticipate going back there because they clearly do not have their accounting in order over there.
