$5.23 (+tip at your discretion) is the cost of a haircut here. So...you're paying dirt cheap prices but outcomes may vary. Sometimes you will get salon-quality because the student is really good; sometimes you may walk out feeling a bit disappointed. If the job is very easy and hard to 'mess up,' this is a good option. But be prepared to spend a bit of time here. Even without a long line of customers, a regular haircut may take an hour as the students meticulously cut each strand.

My children occasionally get their haircuts here. Our experiences vary from great to OK, but what I like about the Hair Design Institute is that you essentially get 2 people for every service - the student and the instructor who comes to check their work at the end and makes needed adjustments. My daughter's haircut took an hour today and while it came out great on the sides and in the back, her bangs were a bit uneven and shorter than I would have liked. The instructor fixed the issues at the very end when she came to evaluate the haircut. It'll take a few weeks for the bangs to grow back out but that's OK! It's summertime - hairclips, headbands, hats will make this transition pretty manageable.

I wished I never walked in that place. I came in one day because I needed my hair flat iron and trimmed. I have natural (4C) hair. They do not have the proper tools to blow out my hair. I left the salon with an uneven hair cut, my hair was not fully straighten and my hair being fried from all the heat damage. Avoid this place at all cost.
