If it's late and you are stuck in battery park, be prepared to get ripped off. Quality is fair, prices are ridiculous. Staff is friendly.

Battery Park City needs some more supermarket options. Gristedes has a peculiar smell that lingers, fresh produce is always past it prime and prices are far from attractive. Avoid at all costs.

This store literally steals your money.

As of last night, there have now been multiple occasions where the personnel at the checkout have tried to take my money beyond what was charged.

Back in the summer, I was shorted $1 and noticed right away. The employee asked me "Are you sure?" He and I both knew that I gave him a $10 bill of which I gave him back the change and yes found out that he shorted me $1.

Last night, a worse situation played out. After checking out with a credit card, we were asked if we wanted a receipt and said no. Today, I find out that there was an additional $20 charged because apparently we had received $20 cash back.

I have filed charges to reprimand the situation as well as contacted Gristedes corporate but be forewarned these guys are a bunch of crooks.

One of the things I like about this Gristedes compared to the one down the street is the Chocks Full of Nuts. They used to have a really cool person working there who was very friendly and would remember your usual order, but since he left, all the other servers are general and don't make the sandwiches as good. Overall they still have very fresh baked goods, so I would definitely check out that selection.

a pack of pirates. highest prices and lowest quality in manhattan. 6-9 dollars a pound for AK chicken, 2 to 3 times the average prices, you'd think chicken was going extinct. Personally caught them repackaging expired meats and even scrubbing date coded off packages. Complete ripoff, avoid
