The biggest ripoff in New York, period! Shopping at this place is nothing less than insulting. I've also caught them on more than one occasion overcharging at the checkout due to incorrect scale weight. Save money and buy more food by shopping anywhere else in Manhattan.

Gourmet grocery store. Go to Associated for your basic groceries, but when you need something nicer, fancier, etc (e.g. artisanal cheeses or meats, higher quality produce, and deli meat, a better selection of organic options, craft beer and other items you'd expect to find at a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's), then this is the place to go. It's nice to have this available, though it's a bit pricey for everyday grocery shopping. Staff/cashiers are courteous and helpful.

Prices are fairly high for the neighborhood, but the selection and quality are really nice.

It's hard to completely trash franks - it's there when you need it. Obviously the complaints about price are fairly on point, although it too has a few "loss leaders" so its teeth don't get completely kicked out by associated. The prices of its produce are a laugh riot. I'm surprised the whole lot of it doesn't sit there and rot. The lines can back up, generally on account of understaffed cashiers and also staff who could care less if you have to wait.

If you live in the neighborhood you have to put up with Frank's. It's expensive and the quality is not what one would expect in a high end store. When I can, I buy at Trader Joe's or Zabar's and haul the stuff up town. When I can't I buy "gourmet" at Frank's. It's thereness is why I give it three stars. Also: Check pull dates before you buy.
