I like this place.... and I'm trying to make it my go-to neighborhood place... But the last 2 times I was in here, I left because they can't figure out the AC.
Can I offer a suggestion to management? PLEASE INCREASE THE AC.
2 weeks ago I was there, it was 90+ outside, and it must have been 80 inside. AC was "on", but just not working. The couple next to me ended up leaving and went to another bar in the area ONLY because the place was too hot. I left and went home. Both of us easily could have been there (spending money) for another couple of hours IF only the AC was suitable.
Same thing last night. I stopped in at 5:10 pm. (Place opens at 5 pm.) It was 92 degrees outside... pretty much 85 degrees inside... AND THE DOOR WAS OPEN. I asked the (shorter with beard) bartender "Is the AC not working?" and he smugly replied "hey... we just opened.. give it a minute". So I left, went to Hoboken, and spent $75 in a comparable bar that had AC and burgers and beers.
Suggestion to the owner... If the bar opens at 5 pm.... Have the place ready for customers at 5 pm. NOONE wants to drink in a hot bar on a summer Fri night. (If I wanted a hot bar, I'd go to the Trolley Car.)
Thank you.

While the staff are a bunch of asshats, the food is good. They love to the move where they take your order while not writing anything down, only to be back to ask you again what you ordered. Bring your self-control and appetite to this place.

Hey so I normally never write reviews EVER but I had to document this because it actually ruined my day and I'm planning on never coming to this establishment again.
It's not even that crazy, but...
I'm semi-new to the area. My parents who haven't seen me in a few months decided to make a trip up to visit me. I wanted to take them to a nicer place in the area. I saw the reviews for the place were nice so I thought it would be a good idea. We arrived at 11:30 am, 30 minutes after they opened, there was one other table there and one person seated at the bar. I had work at 1pm that afternoon in the area so I figured an hour was a good budget of time for us to eat and leave.
I ordered our food along with the drink order of 3 coffee so that way we could get everything in a timely matter even if it was late. Needless to say, we ordered at 11:35 but didn't get our food until 12:15...
It was pretty empty in there also, and they kept telling us our food was coming out soon, one of the waiters was really nice and I kept asking him when it was coming out because we were waiting for literally 40 minutes. It was just a stressful situation because I wanted a nice morning with my parents and my dad doesn't even go out much and this is why. 40 minutes to make some toast....my dad is also really antsy so we were all getting a bit cranky.
It isn't that big of a deal still, but my problem was how they handled the situation. You could tell I was upset, and we didn't even get an apology or explanation. I've worked many a job in the service industry and I know a 40 minute wait for food with an empty establishment means something went wrong, or they forgot something...whatever it could be. But we were people, sitting there, patiently waiting and being polite, at least tell us there was something wrong, apologize...anything? I felt like they just wanted us to leave and pretended like their wasn't an issue when there was something obviously up, maybe they were upset cause we weren't drinking bloody marys? who the heck knows.
Long story short when they check came I thought at least they might knock off the $2 coffees a person since we paid $10 for late sog toast but nah. Like seriously? You couldn't just have offered the coffee for free since we sat there for an eternity and the only thing we could do was to drink coffee? My parents still paid a very nice tip despite my best efforts of explaining that this is NOT what a nice brunch experience should be. They don't get out much and who knows if they ever will again. I had to head straight to work after this carrying the rest of my breakfast to-go and eating it later that evening after my shift ended. As "cool" as this place looks they sure aren't polite...except for that one waiter I actually felt bad he has to work there.

've been here a few times, mostly for drinks but also to eat. This was a few months ago - I've heard they have increased their staff since then, which was be one of my main complaints.
Firstly, I love that this place is in this neighborhood and I want them to succeed. I think everybody does. Every time I've been there the bartender has been overwhelmed, often also acting as a server, but the vibe is 'just be patient'. We came in once on a weeknight when things were pretty empty, and ordered burgers, and waited for quite a while before they brought them out.
For prices... the cocktails are good and interesting, and I'm happy to pay for them. The beer is truly overpriced; the burgers are great, but also a bit pricy. If this is the price point they need to keep the business open, then I suppose it's what needs to happen... but I'd love to hear about a happy hour or something so that I can come here more regularly.
