New Essen in Lower Manhattan. Everything in the hot bar was loaded with salt. There wasn't one steamed vegetable. The cold bar was just as bad. Just some plain grilled chicken and some plain vegetables would be nice. Maybe have a look at Whole Foods. The specialty bars were equally unappealing. For example, the Salad bar had no apparent low salt proteins. There might be a way to order a grilled chicken sandwich, but I don't need the bread, and I do need some unsalted, green veggies. I mean, if you like salt, you cN have it any which way at Essen on Broad Street. Enjoy.

Much needed addition to the FIDI lunch scene. Has all the prerequisite salad bar foods, plus made to order as well. Decent amount of groceries items available as well; interesting snacks hard to find elsewhere, milk, etc. Brand new, so extremely clean and well run. Picked up a small package of eel/avocado rolls and a few dim sum (shrimp shu mai and chicken dumplings). All were fine enough - very generic but edible. Served at incorrect temperatures - the dumplings were not hot as they should be, and the sushi was far too cold.
Overall ok, not my kind of place but I can see hitting it up now and then. One thing I found alarming is the rice pots were being left wide open which can lead to temperature fluctuations in the rice which potentially can cause food poisoning. They need to put labels on them that say to keep closed!
