Came here for lunch and ordered the miso black cod and salmon boxes. The cod was perfection, the salmon was plain-flavored but well cooked. The boxes came with their famous tofu, rice, salad, soup, and pickles. The food was decent, but the servers asked us maybe 6 times whether we wanted anything to drink. And this was between two of the servers, as if they didn't communicate with each other at all.
We are all aware that drinks are your highest markup, but please don't be so obvious or desperate about it. It's distracting to be asked in the middle of the meal whether we want drinks.

I almost needed a chiropractor appt after a show there. We were crammed in like sardines, and I'm surprised the fire department hasn't raided them. When I booked a show and requested a table with dining, I expected a round, high table with a great view of the stage. The four of us were crammed into a table that should really be for 2 people, wedged into a corner. It was hot, cramped, the sound was "ok", the food was NOT GOOD, the guy at the front door was rude to multiple people, and I was so excited to get out into the fresh air from about the midpoint onward.
The coconut shrimp tasted like that fake shrimp that they serve at midtown deli salad bars by the pound. The calamari was bland, my chicken sandwich was meh.

Warm home made tofu for the win. You won't regret ordering. This is one of the most Japanese restaurants I know in the city. From greeting you when you walk in, to having shoeless exclusive rooms. Everything in the menu is delicious. I especially liked the salmon sashimi, but wood recommend anything. Sharing is the way to go here.

Amazing innovative twist on Kyoto-style cuisine, balancing tradition and creativity in a gorgeous space.
I've lived and dined widely in Japan, and can safely say that En is among the best Japanese restaurants in the world.
A bit pricey, but not stuffy, and incomparable "wow" factor — cheaper than a flight to Kyoto!
