I needed a simple service. I wanted rubber taps put on the front and rear of a new pair of shoes to reduce the wear on the front of the sole and rear of the heel.

These used to cost about $2 a pair, so $4 in total. Recently many shoe repair places in NYC, where I'd normally have this done during a weekday work day, have raised these to $3 a pair. I was prepared to pay that, but thought perhaps in NJ they might still be $2 a pair.

I was shocked when this shop wanted $5 a pair, for a $10 total. When my surprise registered and explained why to this shopkeeper, he got a real nasty attitude. In a hostile voice he asked why not have them done in NYC then? I said it was because it was a Saturday and I didn't want to wait until Monday. Besides, I had already driven to this shop and wasn't going to blow off doing these over $4 of difference.

To my surprise and disbelief, the shop keeper said he wouldn't perform the work even for the exorbitant overcharge he quoted. I said I was prepared to pay the $10. He still said he was refusing to do them because the soles and heels were rubber and the taps wouldn't hold.

This was utter nonsense. I own over 30 pairs of shoes and many have soles and heels made of rubber. These taps get both glued and nailed into place and I have almost always worn them down to replacement levels, rather than have them come loose and fall off. And, I explained this and wasn't going to hold him responsible if they came loose.

Again to my surprised the shop keeper remained surly and said he wouldn't do the work. I asked what was the problem. He rudely said he simply didn't want to be bothered. I was shocked and walked out. Fortunately, driving home I spotted another shoe repair shop at the Western end of Main Steet in West Orange that did the service and it was done in less than 5 minutes for $6 in total.

So, in summary, avoid this place. It is overpriced and they treat customers like dirt. AVOID!!!

This man is so rude!!!! I am so hurt and dissappointed with the way I was treated. Yes, he does great work, but his customer service is lacking. I have made it my purpose to never return, I know longer send my friends nor family. One should respect those that have been loyal. My family has been going to him since before I was born. He made a huge mistake. We are a family passionate about shoes and I get my shoes touched up at least once a year. I will not pay to be spoken to with no respect. Quite frankly, I believe he is prejudice; there is a huge difference in how he addresses those of color versus Caucasions. Never will I ever again! My people, PLEASE BEWARE!

The owner is rude and disrespectful with a nasty attitude. Wanted to charge $10 to sew a button on a leather jacket. He said I couldn't wait for it on Saturday and told me to come back for it sometime next week when I don't need it. I stood there for a good 3 minutes then he rudely said never mind I can't do it with an attitude. Jeez. How does he stay in business with such poor customer service?!?

It's hard to find a good shoemaker these days so when I stumbled upon this store I was very happy. It's run by an older gentlemen who has apparently been in the business for over 35 years. My shoes were really beat up and I didn't think they had a chance of being fixed up. Well when I went back to pick them up two days later it was as if he went to the store and bought new ones off the shelf. I can honestly say it takes a lot for me to be impressed but his work was extremely impressive. I even gave him a tip as I walked away shaking my head in disbelief. If you can make it down here I highly recommend him.

This man does what he knows best and that is SHOES. Its about craftsmanship when it comes to fixing something as difficult as a shoe and this man knows what he is doing. Dropped off my fiances FAVORITE pair of john varvartos shoes and he resoled them and polished them up and now they look brand new. Thank you shoe doctor!!!!!
