East Village Bed & Coffee

Highly recommend this place. It's in a great neighborhood (East Village) that makes you feel like you're living where the people live. It's near several main streets with a lot of good restaurants on it.

Each room inside is unique. It's NYC so the rooms are small and you share a bathroom with 2-3 other rooms on each floor, but the bathrooms are kept very clean. They have a shared kitchen for you to cook your own food if you want.

Where we became brand advocates for this place is when they let us know they have bikes for guests to use FOR FREE and MoMa passes FOR FREE. Score!

Mango the dog is their mascot and brings a lot of joy.

There's FREE strong wifi.

The only minus is that it is about a 13 minute walk from the subway.

My wife and I will ALWAYS stay here when we are in NYC!

Pretty great in almost every way. Issues are it is a distance from the subway station, and the shared bathrooms can be difficult. If you are prepared for these two things though, you will have a ball!

Fine rooms/place/price, awkward vibe/interactions.

Just arrived back from a seven night stay in the Flight room and had an amazing time. The room was small but had everything we needed including an I pod dock and essential air conditioning. Communal spaces were very clean and well appointed. All of the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. All this and the hostel is in what I consider to be the most lively and exciting part of Manhattan. Oh and you can also borrow a MOMA card knocking at least $20 off the entrance price.

An excellent place to stay on a budget in NY.
We went for 2 weeks in July 07 and we enjoyed it so much we're going for another 2 weeks in September 08. The room was clean and so were all the amenities, Anne, the proprietor, was extra helpful with any needs or inquiries we had. The sharing of a bathroom wasn't an issue either as one could always go to a different floor and the bathroom was usually vacated.
The website is very helpful too, especially regarding the best way to arrive from the Airport.

There area has some real cool places to visit all within walking distance, St Marks place for example. The subway stop is a short walk from Bed and Coffee but this is a good thing as you get to experience the neighborhood and find some little gems that you may have missed otherwise. There is also a Police station about 20 seconds away so you feel safe walking about at night.

If you're looking to experience the real New York this is the place to stay.
