Dr. Alan Schlussel

Dr. Schlussel is an excellent optometrist. He is very knowledgeable and professional. The ladies in the office are excellent as well. I highly recommend Dr. Schlussel's practice.

Dr. Schlussel was very kind and knowledgeable. He explained things in a way that were clear and easy to understand. He took his time answering all of the questions that I had and did not make me feel like any of my questions were silly. As a person who has had fit problems with contact lenses for the past 15 years I was reluctant to give it one more try but Dr. Schlussel determined the perfect fit and prescription on the first shot! He explained why the new ones that were selected worked best for me and sent me home with trials to just be sure before we placed an order for more. The office staff was so kind as well. I was not sure if I was going to purchase my glasses there but they were not pushy at all and were totally fine with whatever I decided. They had a wide variety of designer glasses and sunglasses that were very reasonably priced so I did purchase them in the office . Everyone was extremely helpful and the office was kept very clean! I would highly recommend using Dr. Schlussel's office!

I've been going her for over 2 years now and every time I leave the office I'm upset. I tried giving him a fair shot as I understand medical expenses can sometimes be out of the doctor's control, but that's not the case here. This doctor's main concern is having his patients pay him more money whether it's through hidden fees, extra tests, the newest contacts lens, etc. He's always pushing to get you to pay more in one way or another, and doesn't tell you about the fees until you're walking out the door.

I recently had an eye infection and went to see him for treatment. I needed a follow up just to check that the infection was gone and he charged me for an entire new appointment without letting me know. He then tried scheduling a 2nd follow up in hopes of charging me again. When I mentioned that I had no idea I would be charged for another appointment with the 1st follow up and that I didn't want the 2nd follow up, he walked away and didn't say a word to me. He completely ignored my concern and the fact that I was unhappy about the charges he didn't tell me about. I talked with my insurance company to see if this was typical and they let me know it's at the doctor’s discretion, but they don't normally see a doctor charging for a follow up as it's just a continuation of the appointment you already had.

I'll never go back to this office. Unfortunately, I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt after a number of upsetting encounters and in the end I was wrong. This isn't a place to go if you want a doctor concerned about you as a person, he's only concerned about your money.

The doctor himself was nice but seemed a bit pushy when it came to buying eyewear directly from him. I hadn't even had a contact lens exam but received a bill in the mail for the service and also for a year's worth of contacts. When I called to clear up the matter I was told that I had to pay the balance on the account despite never receiving the service or the product ordered. When I tried to go to another location to use my frame discount from my insurance, I was told that I already used it! I was shocked to find out that the doctor (or his employee) never rescinded the false claim that they made, now I'm battling with my insurance company to recoup the discount that I'm entitled to because this doctors office stole it. Although I think Dr. Schlussel is a capable optometrist the agony you're dragged through and the poor customer service you receive from his staff makes this place not even worth the trouble as there are thousands of capable doctors whose staff are friendly and competent.

**UPDATE**
My insurance company has been extremely cooperative, they have asked that the doctors billing agent re-file the claim as it was sent to them incorrectly initially with inflated costs and services and materials that I never received; This has yet to be done. The doctor's receptionist and the doctor himself have refused to provide me with any additional assistance and have hung up on me numerous times when I've tried to explain the situation and the issues that I am having as a consumer that only wants to be able to get a new pair of glasses.

I've been going to Dr. Schlussel for over 20 years. Besides being an excellent optometrist he also takes the time to get to know his patients. My eyes are crucial to my work and I feel very confident in his treatment and advice. He very clearly explains diagnostic procedures, diagnosis, and treatments. He is very good about making sure patients are able to understand all aspects of their eye health. And he works with patients to determine the best options. His staff is also very good. I highly recommend Dr. Schlussel to anyone looking for an optometrist.
