Dollar Rent a Car

I rent automobiles from dollar JFK outlet quite regularly and in the main am quite satisfied. The processing goes generally smooth as long as one has a reservation. On a number of occasions the service outside - where one gets the actual car assigned - can do better with some improvements. One way would be to assign the vehicle and parking spot when the paperwork os completed inside. Yes, some things can be improved but generally I find the place quite OK and particularly staff doing the paperwork are normally prompt and courteous.

Why didn't I read these reviews before????

They called me a week after I turned the vehicle to say in their system it shows I haven't returned it yet. Good thing is that I always take pictures of the contracts. So I had the proof that I returned it on exact day and exact time. They then said that they will take care of it.

A few days later I noticed a $114 being charged from my cc. I called them after a long weekend and they said it is hertz number. Hertz is affiliated with dollor. Hertz office was open but dollor wasn't.

I have to wait one more day in frustration.

Never going back and never letting any friend or family member going there either.

Simple way to put it, spend money there and get pissed off.

Took 2 hours to rent a van from this company, and I had to wait under the rain. They knew I was coming, they had my flight number. Not only they could not use their computer, but there was no car available. I had to wait for 2 hours till they found a car for me. The car was so filthy that I had to clean it myself. Full of rotting food inside, and all covered in some sticky slime that I think its Coke.
I had to replace the windshield blades because they were so worn down that I could not see when raining. The ball joints on the van were so worn out that the car could not go on a straight line and every time I went over a bump everything cracked and rattled. The transmission started to fail on our way back from our holiday stay. The brake pads got stuck to the disks overnight and I had to fix that too. Please avoid this company. The customer service is non-existent; the cars are filthy and old. This is not a car rental company; I do not know what it is, but certainly not a car rental company.

This was the worst service I have ever received. First I've booked Full size car that follows: mini, economy, compact, intermediate, standard. It was written that it's a size of Ford Fusion, which is equivalent of Chevrolet Malibu, VW Passat etc. The cars we were offered were Kia Soul, Chevrolet Cruise, Nissan Versa - all around intermediate / standard, so 1-2 classes below. I don't care about Dollar internal qualifications - you can give then even mini car and say it's a full size. It’s simply cheating customers.

The lady that was serving us was completely annoyed by the fact I'm not happy with the selection. Eventually she agreed we can take Altima. The car didn't have even 1 element without scratches and damages.

I wanted to take insurance. Dollar webpage mentioned you can only purchase it at the rental station and it should be 9-12 USD. It turned out that there are 3 insurance options for: 17, 27, and 37 USD. Only those for 27 and 37 covers damages in rented car and other users' cars.

In addition we've pointed out that at the return we'd like to pay cash. We were informed we can do so. However at the checkout it turned out we need to have precise amount of money, as they don't have any change. I talked to the manager, who was completely not helpful. When I was discussing with one of the staff, the other 2 were laughing at me - how rude it was...

It was definitely my last rental with Dollar. Believe me - better to pay a bit more and have right service.

I had a reservation for a car at 10am on a Sunday. Upon arriving at the counter at 10am, the woman promptly went through the paperwork and printed out the car agreement. She was courteous and quick (less than 5 min really). However, upon walking out to the station outside, I saw a line of about 5 people waiting to pick up and return cars. Basically there were only two people in charge of dealing with returning customers, cleaning up and washing the cars as well as preparing the next rentals.

This place is severely understaffed and as a result the customer line grew to 8 customers at one point. The staff also barely acknowledged customers leaving many angry or just confused as the staff had to disappear at times to run the cars through the car wash, etc. Another customer told me that this wait is normal here.

At the end, I did get my car at 10:50am though the car wasn't super clean. I even found half of a cupcake between the seats.
