Crumbs Bake Shop

I am keeping this rating overall as Very Good - because I do love the Crumbs brand and their cupcakes, but I am writing today to cover the David Burke Lunches -- Smokey Turkey to be specific.

Brioche was slightly dry, mustard - couldn't taste it over the spice of the pepper jack cheese, onion - only got the flavor in one bite (didnt have cheese), tomato - not as firm as I like, and the turkey...oh the turkey...slimy Oscar Meyer package-like processed squiggles. All of this for $10. But hey...at least the cupcake for dessert is good.

Pret and another deli are 20 feet away and contain real meat for less (7-$10 per sandwich as opposed to Crumbs/Burke's 10-$15)

After a gym work out or coming from the near by spas, what a better reward than a Crumbs cupcake. Nice location near the 6 train and storefront over looks Park Avenue South. Great cupcakes.

I wish they had a cupcake sized between the mini ones they sell and the giant "normal" cupcakes. I used to not be so thrilled with Crumbs, but the last few times I've been, it's stood out a lot more. Love the standard vanilla with chocolate icing, and the cotton candy cupcake is delicious.

This was the site of my first encounter with the Blackout cupcake. The Blackout cupcake is all about chocolate. Chocolate cake filled w/fudge mixed w/vanilla custard and chocolate cream cheese frosting. It was so rich, so delicious. I happily wiggled my toes while eating. I was even tempted to ask what the cupcake was doing Saturday night.

For my 2nd visit, the Brownie cupcake was on the menu. Unlike the Blackout, the Brownie cupcake was not moist. It was a bit dry and the chocolate drizzling had a refrigerated taste to it.

For my friend Kate's bridal celebration (mazel tov, baby girl!) I placed an order for the Good Guy & Devil's Food cupcakes. The Good Guy has vanilla cake with rainbow sprinkles baked in. It also has buttercream frosting & vanilla cream cheese frosting. The cupcake was pretty popular amongst my coworkers. It reminded me a lot of funfetti cake. Not a bad comparison, but it's not necessarily something I would order on a frequent basis.

On other visits, I've had a large chocolate chip cookie & a chocolate brownie but nothing comes to mind when reflecting on those orders. The staff here is pleasant and patiently answers all of my "What's that?" & "and what's in this one?" questions.

Just as a note: when placing a large order over the phone and paying with an AMEX, it's necessary to complete an authorization form as well as fax or scan a copy of the credit card being used.
