Great prepared food bar (you can get cheeseless pizza slice with brocalli rabe on top) with fair prices (considering it's Chelsea Market) and sit behind the counter in the store which feels like an authentic nonna's kitchen/pantry. But the service could be better (although I personally couldn't deal well with that many tourists all day)

Good store with many interesting genuine products from Italy.
Of course, as in all imported food emporiums, you need to double check prices as some products might be more expensive here than in other somewhere else...but this is how it works.
I personally love the sausages, which are the closest thing to actual Italian sausages as you can get in New York. And by Italian sausages I mean sausages that you will find in italy, not those sweet fennel flavored things they sell in the States. Prices on pasta and biscuits are pretty good.
I never tried the cooked food but from what I have seen there is nothing Italian in that window. I just go there to pay for espresso.

Visited this food outlet last week and payed $9 for a portion of chicken penne for my daughter. I was annoyed at being charged that amount but what made it worse was the rotten, lousy, miserable, unfriendly and non communicative girl that "worked" here.
To top it all off, the pasta wasn't exactly much to write home about either! DO NOT GO HERE! For my lunch I walked further down the alley to Los Tacos and spent under $3 for a yummy quesadilla.

One can find an assortment of Italian products in the suburbs, but Buonitalia has an incredible selection of Italian cheeses that I haven't found around here. Want to relive that La Dolce Vita experience you had with alpine air and that cheese that you tried in Valle d'Aosta? They've got it!
