- Excellent #75271
My son is in the Toddler 2 class - He has learned to identify all the alphabet letters both capital and lower case along with the sounds they make, identify numbers one through twenty and can also say them in Spanish, identify colors, and shapes in English and Spanish. Through number recognition, my son is able to read a math problem (i.e. seven plus four equals eleven written as 7+4=11).

The school is exceptionally cleaned daily, the hours are perfect and should be able to accomodate any work schedule. They administrative staff are very pleasant, I'm always greeted with a friendly smile and warm "Hi Mom!" no matter what time of day.

There is not one bad thing I can even make up to say... I love Building Blocks University !!!!

I agree with the assessment provided by the other parent. I am very disappointed in Building Blocks because they are good at marketing however their service is sub par. I expected to see the curriculum that a Ms Ofia bragged on and on about, the baby massage amongst other things, but I was sorely disappointed when none of this took place. The teachers are not qualified, do not even possess a CDA, but what do you expect when they refuse to pay properly? Not many teachers will stand for below minimum wage and no over time pay. Unfortunately we are not able to do better because we have not yet visited another daycare with better services, but once we find one our daughter will be gone from there. They are always raising funds for something, but have not told us what those funds are for. The daycare is now overcrowded with Montclair students and the after school students. Mr. Thomas has imposed a 25.00 late fee if tuition is not paid the FRIDAY before the week commences. He is all about the money, that's it.

My 2 1/2 year old started at BBU in September of 2008, when i took the tour i feel in love with the school. i was told that they have a curriculum, the children will be taught a 2nd language and potty training was done. the first week was great, report was send home about my sons activities that day and it was a nice and he seemed to be happy. as time
went on i noticed that the daily reports stopped, no potty training was done and the curriculum that i was told about seemed to be nonexistent. my sons attitude has changed also, he now cries when i drop him off.
now the Montclair facility is closed because they are moving to a new building, because of this all the children/staff from Montclair are now in Irvington until the new location is ready. the Irvington location is overcrowded due to the children/staff from Montclair on top the older children that come for the after school program. there is a new fundraiser every few months or so but i have no clue what the funds are being raised for. tuition payments are placed in a locked mail box on the wall ,the front door is only locked at 6 pm so they can tell which parents are late, and receipts are ONLY provided on request.
i could go on an on but i will end it by saying, the school that i had such high hopes for turned out to be a over-paid babysitting service.
BBU should start caring more about the children and less about the money. its time to put the CARE back in childcare.
