I dropped off a powered subwoofer to be repaired at Brooklyn Electro-Musical after I called the store and described the problem and the product (the issue being the sub would power on but output almost no volume - I figured there was a problem with the amp or something). They said they could fix it so I brought it in. The staff seemed courteous, however, when they asked for the manufacturer's name to enter my data into the computer, they seemed to have never heard of Klipsch and didn't know how to spell the brand. This should have been my first clue that they weren't the right place for the job - as you'd think any experienced audio repair shop would have heard of this common company.
Anyway, they told me to call them after the weekend (it was a Thursday) and they would have an estimate. That seemed like a long time to get an estimate, but I wasn't in a rush. I called when instructed, and after I managed to get through (no one picked up the phone on the first several attempts), they told me they didn't know anything and I should call back in a day or two. I did, and received the same response. I called the following day, and they seemed annoyed that I was calling repeatedly to get an estimate on my sub. It had been almost two weeks at this point and I still couldn't get an answer as to what was wrong with it, whether they could fix it, how much it would cost, or how long it would take.
At this point I was told they had to send it out and they were waiting on the guy they sent it to to get back to them so they could get back to me. I asked them politely if they had any ETA on just having some information, let alone having the repair done, and they became annoyed and repeated that they didn't know because they had to send it out, and that I should call back next WEEK!
I called back the following week and received the same useless lack of information.
Not that this piece of equipment was high end or anything, but if I bring a fairly common speaker of some value to an electronics repair store and they have no idea what it is or how to fix it, I'd rather just pick it up a day or two later and take it somewhere else than be misled. In my experience Brooklyn Electro-Musical is unprofessional, unhelpful, and either can't perform a repair on a common type of home speaker, or worse, are intentionally obstructing my ability to reclaim my property. It's been a month now and I still can't get an answer out of them. Never once did they call me to give me an update either. As far as I'm concerned, they've stolen my broken sub.
