What a shit hole!!! And I should know cause I worked there.
It's true that this place is in a great location to visit the sites around downtown but, you can find other places close by that would charge a little more or about the same as staying there.
As for bed bugs, there are plenty of them. I saw guests walk by me with one or two on their backs. I also had to help out other guests that were bitten so bad by supplying them with alcohol & washing the clothes they brought with them. The serious cases had to check out & go straight to the hospital to avoid infections.
Thankfully the hostel is closed right now but if they ever open up again. Avoid this bed bug infested hostel like the plague!!

- Poor #19217
Bowery's Whitehouse Hotel is similar to a poor shack. It offers very meager accommodations. For the price though, you really get what you pay for. It is super affordable. But if you really want to be comfortable, go somewhere else and just pay a little more. This place is only for those who want to wash up and go and have an all day experience in New York. Don't expect anything more than necessities from this place or you risk being disappointed. The beds are small, smaller than a twin size. The room is just big enough to hold the bed. Don't expect extra space. You will not have enough room to walk around in the room. It is very small and uninviting. Not a sense of warmth at all. The showers and toilets are shared by everyone making it very similar to a dorm. You can hear people showering and using the bathroom as there are no ceilings. There are no power outlets in these small rooms, you have to go down stairs to the main lobby to use any electronic device that needs a strong charge. Don't expect any ice or other regular hotel accommodations. But they do have coffee for a buck.

On the positive side, you are right in the middle of downtown New York and close to the subway stations and not too far from Times Square. If you have little money and want to experience Manhattan go to Bowery's Whitehouse. But please don't expect much.

Location is great but conditions are very bad. No roof, plenty of light all nght long. Much noise comnng from everywhere. Anyway all this would be tolerable if we consider the price payed versus location. What is worst then all are the BEDBUGS in hundreds . I had just a few bites but my husband came completly bitten had to see a doctor and take antibiotics as he got the skin all infected. Defenitly a place not to come back.

“CHEAPEST PRIVATE ROOM IN MANHATTAN”

I have stayed at the Bowery Whitehouse three times already, and there's a reason I keep coming back. IT'S CHEAP AND CENTRALLY LOCATED !!! The rooms might be tiny and a bit noisy (remember ear plugs and sleep shades), the common facilites are decent, but the staff are really nice and helpful. It's a great location and you can't beat the price. BEST PRICE FOR A PRIVATE ROOM IN MANHATTAN. I will stay there again in a few weeks, and I am looking forward !

This place is not fancy but it has the basic necessitates: a place to sleep, shower, shave, s**t and to store (your luggage). The lounge is nice but I don’t use it that much: I’m only here for the above mentioned basic necessitates. The rooms are admittedly closet-sized but I’m a big guy (at 6ft, 275lbs) and I’ve always been comfortable in my room. There is enough space under the bed to store your luggage; there is a small but ample closet to hang clothes and a tiny shelf. The staff people are nice and friendly. I have stayed here several times and I’ve never had any problems with checking in, my room or checking out. They even provided a Thanksgiving buffet in the lobby (only on Thanksgiving Day, naturally). I wouldn’t stay anywhere else; I recommend it to anyone (I like) who wants an inexpensive place to stay in NYC. I will continue to stay here every time I come to NYC (as long as they’re here and they’ve got available rooms).
