while the characters of Seinfeld consider the cinnamon babka to be a "lesser babka", perhaps they would rethink the errors of their ways by trying the cinnamon babka at Andre's.
for $12, you get a delicious, decently-sized, cinnamon-and-raisin-filled babka. light and savory, it will certainly hit the spot. perhaps not as good as your friend's homemade dinosaur-sized Boston cream cupcake, but still good.
cash only, and it's take-out only (they have another location in the city with seating). still, worth a look if you like Eastern European sweets!

Very good pastries and very unfriendly (almost rude) people. If you can ignore one you'll get the best (worst) of the other.

The only problem with Andre's Bakary is once you get to try anything there there,
you won't be eating anyone elses becking. Simply put, nobody can compare to Andres !

Upon entering Andre's, you'll be struck by two things; the nice looking baked items in the window and the sour mood of otherwise very attractive waitresses. Toto, you are not in Kansas anymore. In this cramped space, it's as if you're in a work camp circa 1940. When you get served, don't expect a smile. The strudel is bland, with pieces of apple that aren't sufficiently cooked. The coffee is among the blandest you'll ever have. I will say this though, the apple cake (otherwise known as apple square), is much more flavorful and at a lower price of the strudel! The paprikash soup looks delicious, but don't expect a smile. The borsht looks delicious, but don't expect service with a smile. The schnitzel also looks great. But don't expect even a hint of a smile.

A bit disapointing. It looks like it would be a cool neighborhood place with good traditional food, but the deserts I've gotten there haven't been impressive. The selection of goods was surprisingly small and the strudel (which seems to be there speciality) wasn't all that great.
