Amaranth

One of my favorite restaurants in new york. Right in the neighborhood, lovely atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff.

The Four Seasons down the street recommended this place for our party of 7. I can say now that my family and I were a little concerned when we were only accompanied by one couple at 7:30 on the Saturday following Christmas. Little did I know, Amaranth had a late night crowd. By the time we left the restaurant at about 8:45 - 9:00 PM the little Italian restaurant located just off Madison Avenue on 62nd Street was hopping. I had a starter of fried shrimp and calamari which was delightful, followed by the rigatoni bolognese (Though I hear the Dover Soul was quite good as well). I had the "Profiterroles" for desert which were basically 3 mini ice cream sandwiches topped with hot fudge. Overall, quite a good experience. Would recommend if visiting NYC, will go back when I do.

A friend suggested me this place, but actually I was skeptic after reading all these bad reviews. But I decided to go anyway and eventually I was right!.. great service ! Fantastic food ( try the spicy tartare!) !!! Very nice place! My best food experience in NY so far !!!
Really i cannot figure out why it has such low rate!! GO AND TRY BY YOURSELVES

With a reservation, the hostess obnoxiously an rudely told us we should have called ahead of time and she had already let the kitchen go home. We were told the kitchen closes at 10. But the restaurant closes at 12am came at 9:40. So she was talking down to a waiter who wrote us in the book and and she chose not to see it.

OMG!!! Horrible place. Service slow and it's like they are doing you a favor by servicing food. They also don't honor reservations. STAY AWAY.
