It's an UWS institution. From their smoked salmon, jalapeno stuffed olives, smoked mussels with horseradish, smoked whitefish salad, prosciutto samples, rugelachs, to their coffee. There's so much to love. And, I'm always reminded of that scene in You've Got Mail every time I'm at the the register.

A great variety of real New York foods... with a Jewish bent. Some of the best lox in the city (maybe second to Russ & Daughters). Prices are high and the store is often crowded and difficult to navigate. They have a great selection of unique housewares upstairs, but also difficult to navigate and help is limited.

Great home wares department with some of the best prices in town. Excellent food shopping on the ground floor. Fantastic cheese department! My family grew up on the appetizing department. All the smoked fish guys knew my grandma in her day.

this is an amazing place ! Got a panini in this deli that was delicious. Then next door and went to the cheese area to get samples and recommendations, chicken in cooked area, fresh ground delicious coffee and saved the salads area and salmon area for next time. AMAZING variety and selection. Wonderful !

Zabar's is a long-standing top source of Jewish and other delicious foods. Locals know it also has one of the best selection of fine cheeses. In addition to house cured fishes, all sorts of prepared foods and excellent Eli Zabar breads, you'll find housewares on the 2nd floor. Be sure to try the whitefish spread and other cold prepared items.
Though known for shipping bagels around the country, these are far from being the city's best, and the bialys are downright terrible. But, as noted, other breads are quite good.
