Last week I went to a class at a gym in Hoboken called "Work It Out" (or WIO). The name of the class was "Next Stop Skinny". The description of the class is this:
*Next Stop Skinny™
All aboard! Next stop Skinny U, where you learn how amazing it feels to tone every inch of your body. No muscle is left behind in this 55-minute total body circuit class where each station works a different spot and blasts of cardio keep you chugging. Be prepared to lose some baggage.*
This was by far the hardest workout class I've ever taken. Including personal training. I was the fattest and oldest girl in the class. (I'm not super skinny, but I wouldn't normally describe myself as fat. And I'm not straight out of college, but I'm not old either. But in this class I was both fat and old).
Because of my herniated disc and arthritis in my lower back I wasn't even able to do all of the exercises, so for some of the cardio I just did jumping jacks while everyone else did other back-intensive things. And I'm not the kind of person to just not do something in a class. I'll try it and push myself until I absolutely can't. But there were several things that my body would just not allow me to do.
The class had zero breaks...not a moment at all to catch your breath. And today I hurt. Everywhere. It's true when they say "no muscle is left behind". No false advertising there. My body is wiped. But in a good way.
It was a totally tortuous 50 minutes. But is it crazy that I sort of want to go back? Maybe I should try one of their other cleverly named classes like Riding High, CandyBarre, Tight End, Sweata Weatha, or Hottie Pilates.
That was 3.5 days ago. I'm still sore.
