Burial place of the rich and famous, and regular people too. Walking through the main gate, you pass grand mausoleums of such well knowns a F W Woolorth, J C Penny, R H Macy, the (Abraham and) Strauss' and members of the Belmont family (ok, not the big members of the Belmont family, but a magnificent mausoleum anyway). Most well known names from retail, finance, entertainment where besides such stars as Irving Berlin, for example, and vaudeville girls of yesteryear, among others, there's the jazz corner featuring such greats a Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Lionel Hampton. You can memorialize Armour Hot Dogs and Coleman's mustard, Fiorello Laguardia, Bat Materson (his simple stone takes a little looking for), and Nelly Bly. It's got lots of land, a lake with water birds, and I've even seen a coyote. An interesting place to explore on a nice day.

One of the most historic cemeteries in New York City, Woodlawn Cemetery is 400 acres (half the size of Central Park) of beautifully landscaped and natural area easily accessed by MetroNorth Railroad and the #4 subway, each stopping right at the entrances. The roster of notable persons buried here is staggering.
It also is right next door to the Woodlawn Heights neighborhood, the most Irish neighborhood in New York City boasting many fine establishments.

Historic, serene and spiritual. One of the most beautifully laid out cemeteries I've ever been to and have family resting in. ❤️

Went mushroom hunting here once. As weird as it may sound this is a great place to go and enjoy a fall day. Lots beautiful trees and not many people around.
