The William Harris Community Garden is located on the Northwest corner of St. Nicholas Avenue and 153rd Street. This is a small triangular-shaped garden which serves the seniors in the area. Founded over twenty years ago in a small corner of an abandoned lot on 153rd Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, in the Sugar Hill section of Harlem, the William A. Harris Garden is a focal point for a community that is growing stronger every day. As the years passed, founder William Harris lovingly planted more and more, and the small corner soon turned into a green patch, eventually blossoming into what it is today: a thriving community garden overflowing with vegetables, flowers, and love.Currently managed by his daughters under the direction of their father, the garden has become a community treasure. Neighbors and community members of all ages chip in to help plant, water, and care for the plants.
