The new building is a huge improvement for the Museum. The surround area is very lively with plenty of shops and restaurants. The actual gallery space itself is a bit smaller than one might expect given the size of the building but this is also due to the fact that it is frequently very crowded. Rather pricey for the permanent collection, but the special exhibitions are usually worthwhile. Pay-what-you-want on Friday evenings is a great option

Beautiful building well situated on its site. Wonderful views and an interesting neighborhood. Collections were not worth the price of admission unless you love modern art. Otherwise recommend you skip.

I loved the Whitney for the tasteful selection of the works displayed. I think it is a nice supplement to the available american art museums in New York. I can only describe it as a "Metified MoMa." Considering getting a membership.

An excellent selection of modern American art -- I recently saw the AJ Motley exhibit and I was absolutely stunned by this artist. There are some 8 floors to the place, though a few are offices and the like, but on the recommendation of a guard I started from the top and worked my way down. There were more than a few genres presented from all different walks of life, as the Whitney seems to take care to not only focus on the well known artists but to uplift lesser knowns as well. I came on a Sunday, which turned out to be free attendance for anyone with Bank of America, so I recommend trying to come that way, though there will be a huge line to get in -- it moves quick, and save yourself the rather pricey entry of $22 (though I was able to get a more fair $18 student entry).

I have visited their old gallery and was impressed with the new location. The architecture, design and layout is gorgeous. The exhibits were well worth the wait, particularly the Frank Stella and the Archibald Motley. It's an engaging selection of 20th century and contemporary American art. Would jump at the chance to see their new special exhibits when they change it up.
