Westside Market NYC

One of their smaller locations in the city. Jam-packed with a wide selection of goods. Great for grab-and-go dinners.

Despite being in a pretty nice part of town, this market is straight up awful.

It’s not just NYC cramped, it’s can’t-walk-down-the-main-aisle-with-a-bag cramped. There are enough staff around to make it hard to navigate the store, but none of them seem to know where anything is, or what it costs.

The prices are only marked on the products themselves, not the shelves, so you have to pick up every single item to compare prices, and that’s when they even bother to put a price on- lots of items are just unmarked. The prices, if you can find them, aren’t the worst I’ve seen in New York, but they’re pretty high, about the same as Whole Foods.

Plus, the selection of products is weird. There are about 18 different kinds of flour in 3 sizes, but not a single bag of powdered sugar.

Oh, and the cashier was both bored and rude. She carried on a conversation with a coworker, then when she was finally ready to actually check me out she asked me for the wrong amount of money.

There are some good things about it, though. There’s a great selection of cheese, produce, and prepared food, and the quality of most of the items stocked is pretty good.

I go to this Westside for absolutely everything. It's especially convenient for Columbia students. They have a salad and a sandwich bar inside - the salad bar is pay by weight so it's a really incredible deal. They really cover everything as far as supermarkets go, including lots of organic and gluten-free and vegan options at very reasonable prices. I recommend this place to do all your shopping. The groceries are fresh!

A much better and less crowded/hectic grocery store than Fairway down the street, Westside has a good selection of ready-made foods, produce, cheeses, etc. Like all NYC groceries, it's on the smaller side, but the staff is always helpful and the prices are decent.
